Novruz in Azerbaijan (Azerbaijani: Novruz Bayramı) is a traditional holiday which celebrates the New Year and the coming of Spring. It is celebrated by Azeris both in Republic of Azerbaijan and Iranian Azerbaijan region, where the majority of Azeris reside. When Republic of Azerbaijan was part of the Soviet Union, celebration of Novruz was generally unofficial and at times even prohibited.
